Call for Staff Mobility, Cohort I

About TAFSA Program

The Intra-Africa Mobility to Train Agribusiness and Food System Scientists for African Agriculture (TAFSA) is funded by the European Union (EU). The program is run by 5 African Participating Universities namely, Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique); Gulu University (Uganda); Makerere University (Uganda); University of Abomey Calavi (Benin), and University of Pretoria (South Africa). Other implementing partners include the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and the Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM). The goal of TAFSA project is to enhance synergetic cooperation amongst selected Agricultural Universities in Africa. Specifically, the project aims at supporting these African universities with research and training of and competent professionals to contribute to the improvement of food systems, and agribusiness to respond to challenges associated with food insecurity, malnutrition, poverty and unemployment.

Through the staff mobility, TAFSA project is expected to contribute to:

  1. Improving the quality of higher education in Africa and its relevance to Africa's development vision;
  2. Strengthening partnerships and research collaboration amongst African higher education institutions and research collaboration;
  3. Provide exposure to working environments of hosting TAFSA partner institutions;
  4. Facilitate the exchange of ideas with project personnel of hosting TAFSA partner institutions;
  5. Exploring possibilities of joint supervision among partners in hosting TAFSA institutions;
  6. Exploring opportunities for external examinations across institutions within the TAFSA network;
  7. Exploring research collaboration opportunities among partners in the hosting TAFSA institutions;
  8. Enhancing networking among project personnel of hosting TAFSA partner institutions; and
  9. Monitoring the progress of TAFSA student beneficiaries at the hosting TAFSA partner institutions.

 

Target beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the TAFSA Project Staff Mobility Scholarship are administrative or academic staff of the 5 Universities.

Selection Criteria

 To be awarded the Staff Mobility scholarship, the applicant must be an administrative or academic staff of any of the 5 Universities of the consortium.

The Host Institution must be outside of the applicant’s home country. The applicant must demonstrate proficiency in the language of the hosting instruction.

 

Selection for the staff mobility award

A designated TAFSA selection committee will carry out the selection process of the applicants. This committee will evaluate the eligibility of the candidates based on TAFSA’s selection criteria which include professional background, motivation and scope of the mobility.

TAFSA selection criteria ensures equitable access and inclusion and will give opportunity to participants from all the five Universities of the consortium. Female candidates, and candidates with disabilities, are strongly encouraged to apply.

 

Eligibility for the TAFSA staff mobility will be assessed based on the following criteria:

  1. Proof that the applicant is from any one of the five  participating universities;
  2. The application deadline is respected;
  3. The right application form is used;
  4. All required supporting documents are provided and are official and legible;
  5.  Potential to strengthen the management capability of the institutions involved in the mobility process
  6. Relevance of administrative position within host institution
  7. Have not benefited in the past from an Intra AFRICA scholarship for the same type of mobility
  8. Be a national of one of the eligible countries
  9. Have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the hosting countries
  10. Is a full-time employee of the partner University

 

Application Requirements

Interested applicants should download and complete the application form, and submit it by email to the project coordination office at tafsa21@gmail.com, with a copy to the project coordinator, 3ngiva@gmail.com. The application should be accompanied by the following supporting documents:

    1. Copies of academic testimonials (Signed and stamped)
    2. A valid work contract or appointment letter at the home university
    3. Letter of recommendation from your Head of department
    4. Statement of motivation for the mobility and applying for TAFSA
    5. Detailed work plan
    6. Invitation letter from the person responsible at the host institution
    7. Copy of Passport Data page or National ID
    8. Curriculum Vitae

Expectations of the staff

Once awarded a TAFSA staff mobility, the staff shall be expected to:

      1. Sign an exchange agreement at the host institution
      2. Be available for the entire duration of the mobility
      3. Participate in cultural and social activities organized at the host institution
      4. Prepare and submit a monthly progress report to the TAFSA project focal person at the host institution

 

Language of instruction

The language of instruction varies with the TAFSA project hosting institution/country. This will range from English (Uganda, South Africa), Portuguese (Mozambique) and French (Benin).

6. Application Deadline

Application for TAFSA staff mobility shall be received by July 20, 2025, 12:00GMT.

Late and incomplete applications will not be considered

Mobility Package

TAFSA project offers full board mobility that includes a monthly stipend (1200 Euros per month), insurance (health) and travel facilitation

The staff mobility is expected to commence in [August 1st, 2025] and conclude by [June 30th, 2026].
